Ethiopia Refisa Washed 100% Arabica Speciality Grade Coffee

Exceptional Coffee from Ethiopia’s West Arsi Zone

This premium coffee is produced by smallholder farmers in the Refisa, Roricho, Bulga, and Riripa kebeles of the Nensebo woreda in Ethiopia’s West Arsi zone. A total of 742 producers delivered ripe cherries to SNAP’s Refisa washing station, operated by Negusse Debela, who also oversees SNAP’s two washing stations in Worka Chelbesa.

Locally Selected Coffee Varieties and Processing

Local farmers grow the 74110 coffee variety, developed by the Jimma Agricultural Research Center (JARC) in the 1970s. After manual harvesting, cherries are delivered to the washing station where washed processing begins. The cherries are pulped and placed into fermentation tanks, fermenting in water for 48–60 hours. After fermentation, the coffee is washed and dried on 200 raised beds at the station for 7–10 days until the ideal humidity is achieved.

SNAP Specialty Coffee, established in 2008 by Negusse Debela in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, is the source of this exceptional coffee. The company operates three washing stations in the Gedeo zone and partners with additional stations in Guji and West Arsi. Our partnership with SNAP began in 2022.

Rich Heritage of West Arsi Zone

Ethiopia’s West Arsi zone is located in the Oromia region, bordered by Sidama, East Shewa, Arsi, Bale, and Guji. Sharing many production characteristics with neighbouring Sidama, West Arsi was once considered part of the Sidama growing area before reclassification. Today, the zone is home to nearly 3 million people, with approximately 90% of the population belonging to the Oromo ethnic group.
