Environmental Impact
Here at strangers amazing coffee is at the fore of everything we do, it’s our passion and we try our best not only to buy high-quality speciality grade beans but we always try select beans which are ethically sourced and those which cause the least amount of environmental impact during production and transit.
But coffee bean production is not the only area of our business which could potentially be damaging to the environment, as these days, we produce a huge amount of cups and bags of coffee for our customers to enjoy and this packaging normally contains non-recyclable plastic waste.
Now we know this is not a new problem, so in 2018 we produced our first range of branded biodegradable takeaway coffee cups, to help reduce the impact that non-recycled paper cups can cause, we also encouraged people to bring their own reusable cups, to help reduce waste. At the same time as introducing new cups, we also replaced all our plastic disposable items like straws and cutlery, with biodegradable products.
We haven’t stopped there though either and for the past couple of years, we have been working with a packaging supplier to make all our coffee bags biodegradable without impacting the flavour of our beans.
We started work on our 250g bags, as a trial, and after a year of success with the new product, we have decided to make all our sizes of bags out of the same materials.
Over the next few months, I’m hoping to have the new range of bags in stock so we can continue producing great coffee, with a little less guilt of the environmental damage we may be causing as a business.
Of course in the scheme of things, we are a tiny dot and to make a real difference in this area we need the big players in the industry to step up and make all their disposable products as environmentally friendly as possible.
